Gold Edges Lower; May be Supported by Weak U.S. Economic Data — Market Talk

Gold edges lower in the early Asian session on possible position adjustment. However, the gold price may be supported by weak U.S. economic data released overnight. Both initial claims and continuing claims suggest a potential weakening in the labor market, Pepperstone's Quasar Elizundia says in an email. Also, confirmation of a contraction in GDP for 1Q, albeit with a slight upward revision, solidified perceptions of an economic slowdown, the research strategist says. "The combination of labor market stress and economic contraction, even amid the slight GDP revision, sets the stage for gold to regain prominence," Elizundia says. Spot gold is 0.1% lower at $3,314.76/oz. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)

亞洲早盤黃金小幅走低，可能是部位調整所致。不過，昨晚公布的美國疲弱經濟數據可能支撐金價。Pepperstone的Quasar Elizundia在電郵中指出，初請失業金和續請失業金數據都顯示勞動力市場或有放緩跡象。另外，第一季GDP雖略微上修，但仍確認經濟收縮，這進一步鞏固了經濟放慢的看法。Elizundia說：「勞動力市場壓力與經濟收縮兩因素，即使GDP稍微上調，也為黃金重獲關注鋪路。」現貨黃金下跌0.1%，報3314.76美元/盎司。 (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
